Criterion Acoustics played a pivotal role in the successful completion of 54D’s flagship fitness studio in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood, providing advanced acoustical engineering solutions tailored to the brand’s high-intensity training environment. Located on the ground floor of 125 West 25th Street, this 7,000-square-foot facility reflects the bold industrial aesthetic that defines 54D while addressing the unique acoustic challenges of operating in a dense urban environment.
The design features include a signature steel cardio ramp with yellow and black accents, custom punching bag rigging with a raw steel aesthetic, and branded rubber flooring that visually ties the space together. Acoustically, Criterion Acoustics implemented a custom sound isolation system with double-framed walls, multi-layered ceilings, and vibration-dampening flooring to minimize sound transmission.
This project demanded precise coordination between Criterion Acoustics, Wesbuilt Construction Managers, and the design architect, THIRLWALL, to deliver a state-of-the-art training space that adheres to stringent New York City Building Code sound regulations. The studio was completed four weeks ahead of schedule, supporting 54D’s mission of transforming lives through a comprehensive fitness program.
Criterion Acoustics ensured the space balanced functionality, aesthetic appeal, and acoustic performance, exemplifying the seamless integration of form and function in fitness studio design.
